Barium Acetate 99.5% Cas 543-80-6

Short Description:

Barium acetate is the salt of barium(II) and acetic acid with a chemical formula Ba(C2H3O2)2. It is a white powder that is highly soluble in water, and decomposes to Barium oxide on heating. Barium acetate has a role as a mordant and a catalyst. Acetates are excellent precursors for production of ultra high purity compounds, catalysts, and nanoscale materials.

What is Barium Acetate used for?

Barium Acetate has applications in a wide range of industries.
In chemistry, Barium Acetate is used in the preparation of other acetates; and as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It is used for the preparation of other barium compounds, such as barium oxide, barium sulphate, and barium carbonate.
Barium acetate is used as a mordant for printing textile fabrics, for drying paints and varnishes and in lubricating oil. It helps dyes fix to fabric and improve their colourfastness.
Certain types of glass, such as optical glass, use barium acetate as an ingredient as it helps increase the refractive index and improve the clarity of the glass.
In several types of pyrotechnic compositions, barium acetate is a fuel that produces a bright green colour when burned.
Barium acetate is sometimes used in water treatment to remove certain types of impurities, such as sulphate ions, from drinking water.
